Canker sores occur inside your mouth or gums. It can be painful while you eat or talk. They mostly heal on their own, however, sometimes treatment is required. Several home remedies can speed up the healing process. However, there is no magic for healing it up in a night. Many of the home remedies are not studied well, so be cautious while you use it.
Salt water rinse:
Salt water might be painful for the sores but they help to dry out the canker sores. Dissolve a tsp of salt in half cup of water. Swirl this solution in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. Repeat it after few hours.
Baking soda rinse:
It is mainly used to restore pH balance and reduce inflammation. Dissolve a tsp of baking soda in half cup of water. Swirl in your mouth for few seconds and spit it out. Repeat it after some time. It will not harm you if you swallow it.
Cause of these sores is unknown, though sometimes it may be caused by intestinal bowel disease. Probiotic cultures can help you treat IBD. If this theory is correct, then eating may help you to relieve sores as it contains probiotic cultures.
Honey is good for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory abilities. It reduces canker sore pain, size, and redness. It also helps from other infections. Apply it several times daily. Try to use unpasteurized honey, as it is less processed and is rich in nutrient.
It has microbial properties so it can cure sores that occur due to bacteria and can help stop it from spreading. It is a natural anti-inflammatory so helps to reduce redness and pain. Its taste is great. Generously, apply the oil on the sore. Apply it daily several times until you get relief of sores.
Sage tea is mainly used for the treatment of mouth inflammation. It is also used for many oral problems. It has antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties. It also relieves pain. Add boiling water to 1 to 2 tbsp of fresh sage leaves. Steep for 5 minutes and then strain it. Swirl the mouthwash in your mouth for few minutes.
Apple cider vinegar:
It is usually used for the cure of everything, including canker sores. It contains an acid which helps to kill bacteria that causes these sores. You have to use it with caution, as it can worsen the sores in some people. Take a tsp of ACV in a cup of water. Swish it for a minute. Then spit it out of the mouth. Repeat it daily.
It has been considered an effective remedy in Chinese medicine. Thus, this claim is not supported scientifically. It is applied directly on the sores for pain relief and quicker relieving. Be cautious as Chinese medicine contains a lot of mercury.
